It aims to establish and maintain monasteries, temples centres and branches; to encourage and maintain an exchange of ideas, friendship and Buddhist principles with the New Zealand public; to appoint teachers approved by HH Karmapa, Orgyen Trinley Dorje; to hold and promote conferences and education courses; to operate schools for its members and / or their children and to facilitate the interchange of ideas and discussion. The Trust is funded entirely by donations both financial and practical.Amida appears with great frequency in Japanese religious painting and statuary, and is often accompanied by two main attendants in artwork called the Amida Sanzon 阿弥陀三尊 (lit.= Amida Triad), which depicts the three descending from above to welcome the souls of the dying into Amida’s pure land. Also, numerous Jōdo Mandala & Jōdo Sanmandara depict Amida's paradise and the non-Tantric deities of Japan's Pure Land sects.

Another special event at Karma Choeling is the visit of a Tibetan Ayurvedic medical practitioner who provides massage, herbal and other treatments for a wide variety of both minor and serious ailments.

Karma Choeling and the New Zealand Karma Kagyu Trust exist to make available to New Zealanders, the teachings and blessings of the Karma Kagyu Lineage, one of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, dating back to the 10th century, and now one of the most widely disseminated in the west.

This aim is achieved by employing qualified resident teachers (lamas) who can present the three baskets of the Buddha's teachings, and can provide instructions on meditation practices to suit each individual's needs and temperament as well as advice on coping with the problems of everyday life.

Prayer texts and books of commetaries and teachings for these practices can be purchased at the monastery.

Some prayers and teachings are also available here and more will be added as they become available.
